Andrew Wilson BA CA
Managing Partner

Andrew is originally from Hamilton, he joined the firm as a trainee in 1990 after graduating from the University of Strathclyde. He was appointed a Partner in April 2000 and became Managing Partner in 2007. Like all our partners he specialises in advising owner managed businesses of all sizes and has particular experience in dealing with charities, medical partnerships and property management.

Andrew is a past Deacon of The Incorporation of Wrights in Glasgow. He is married with three children and when he gets the time enjoys football and golf.

Gibb Gillies BA CA
Partner

Gibb trained with Spicer & Pegler and qualified in 1986. He became a manager in a large firm in 1990 before joining Nelson Gilmour Smith in 1994. He was assumed as a partner in 1995. He specialises in small and medium sized businesses and has particular experience in dealing with solicitors, property management and trusts.

Gibb is treasurer of a hospital charity and is a past Finance Convenor of The Western Club. He enjoys football and attending his local health club in his spare time.

Stuart Ogston BA CA
Partner

Stuart joined Nelson Gilmour Smith in 1996 after graduating from the University of Strathclyde gaining experience on a wide variety of clients before becoming an Associate in 2005 and a Partner in 2007. He specialises in dealing with owner managed businesses working closely with our clients to ensure they maximise the business benefits of using modern technology. Stuart is also our Audit Compliance and Money Laundering Partner.

In his spare time Stuart enjoys football, golf and attending his local health and fitness club.

Douglas Shanks BA CA
Associate

Douglas joined the firm as a trainee in 1988 and became a partner in 1996. He was Managing Partner from 2004 to 2007 when he decided to reduce his workload and stepped down to become an Associate. He continues to deal with a wide range of clients including those in the agricultural sector, construction industry and solicitors. He is Treasurer of Kilmaurs Farmers Society.

Douglas is married with one daughter. At one time he was a keen participator in both rugby and football but is now relegated to the role of spectator.

Ray Dent BAcc (Hons) CA
Manager

Ray qualified with Ernst & Young, and worked for both PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Mazars before joining Nelson Gilmour Smith in 1998. He has a wide experience of the charity sector. Ray has recently been Finance Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Communications 2007 held in the SECC in Glasgow.

He is married with four children and enjoys running, going to the gym, football and church.

Carol MacQueen BA CA
Manager

Carol joined Nelson Gilmour Smith in 1981 after graduating from Strathclyde University. Carol deals with a wide range of clients including advising solicitor firms and assisting with their compliance with Law Society regulations.
